mission statement

Culver City Public Theatre (CCPT) was founded on the belief that an appreciation of theatre history is the touchstone to an understanding and enjoyment of live theatre; a source of considerable educational, inspirational, social and entertainment value to the community and to society at large.

CCPT seeks to stage productions that are artistically and aesthetically both challenging and accessible to audiences of various ages, backgrounds and perspectives. In selecting our season, we seek to present plays that can be described as classic works. Specifically, plays that are compelling, yet underserved or seldom produced by most contemporary theatres; or plays that represent the excellent work of playwrights who we feel deserve more attention than they have historically received.

By "classic", we define the work to be outstanding representations of its period, style and/or creators.  This is why CCPT has enjoyed presenting vital and relevant efforts of playwrights and periods as diverse as Sophocles, William Shakespeare, Neil Simon, Molière, Plautus, Catherine Trotter, Nikolai Gogol, Henry Fielding and Gl'Intronati Di Siena.

Just as CCPT makes a concerted effort to open our stages to diverse audiences, we also open our stages and membership opportunities to artists and professionals of all backgrounds, ethnicities and gender orientations.  CCPT is also open to non-traditional casting opportunities.

As CCPT enters its sixth year, it continues to refine and reinvent itself.  Future goals include presenting a children's theatre series, investigating community outreach programs and forging relationships with other established theatre organizations as we seek to expand our season and production scope.
